Hannah Lane

Conservator of antiquities at Winchester Museum, then the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Joined the Research laboratory of the British Museum in 1961, specializing in the conservation of metal objects. Transferred to the new Department of Conservation in 1975 as Head of Metals Conservation, becoming Head of Conservation in 1982. Retired early in 1995 to nurse my husband.
We had moved to Ottershaw in 1975. The Ottershaw Society was founded in 1981, and I became Secretary in 1982 until 2009. Pivotal role in saving Timber Hill from development, and all representations on planning applications and 3 RBC Local Plans. Major input to RBC to acquire the various Open Spaces around the village, now SANGS. Likewise in getting locally important buildings onto the RBC Locally Listed Buildings.
One of 3 local Ottershaw historians. Extensive archive of the history of the village, with numerous old photographs and other documents, deposited at the Surrey History Centre.
As a volunteer in several aspects over many years for the Surrey Wildlife Trust, including one day a week in the main office for 16 years, elected an Honorary Member.
After 20 years as a volunteer working on Horsell Common to retain its important heathland from encroaching vegetation, in 2011 became a Trustee of the Horsell Common Preservation Society.
