URGENT ACTION APPRECIATED

If people cannot visualise what is next for removal, then the image below may assist .....

The next phase of vegetation removal is on Murray Road all the way along to the entrance of Ottershaw Nursery. This can be kept IF Surrey County Council accept that their reference to 'mature trees" are Veteran, Linear in form with our Important Hedgerows and many smaller trees - all of this are Irreplaceable Habitats. The "avoidance" approach (ie keeping it all) meets the mitigation hierarchy of the Government's National Planning Policy Framework.  Their approach does not.

It's time to act but fast. We cannot stress this enough. We need your support. ONF can only do so much, but it needs the input from as many residents as possible.

You need to submit a formal written objection into SCC. Below is an email template that you can copy and paste and send off today but quickly.

Please remember to state your name and address.

Please share.

Subject: Retention of Veteran Linear Oak Trees & Important Hedgerows on Murray Road – Alignment with NPPF Mitigation Hierarchy. 2021/0185, RU.21/2018, 2021/0185, SCCRef-2025-0117, SCCRef-2025-0116, SCCRef-2025-0176, RU.26/1093

Dear Planning Department mwcd@surreycc.gov.uk

We are writing to raise our very serious concerns on the next proposed phase of unnecessary vegetation removal on Murray Road, extending from the bus stop to the entrance of Ottershaw Nursery. Our legitimate request is to retain all the Veteran‑status trees that run alongside the road, along with the embedded Important Hedgerows and other trees, all of which constitute an Irreplaceable Habitat.

This approach meets the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) mitigation hierarchy, embodying the “avoidance” principle before any removal and you must consider the residents alternative highway alignment.

By preserving these Veteran, linear Oak trees and their associated Important Hedgerows, we not only safeguard our village biodiversity but also maintain the historic character of our landscape and its associated importance with our heritage buildings.

We respectfully ask that Surrey County Council recognise these assets as vital, Veteran Oak trees with Important Hedgerows and other trees, an Irreplaceable Habitat and allows for their legitimate retention under planning law with local and national policies.

Yours sincerely,
