What is happening?
Berkeley is at an advanced stage of preparing proposals for a 650-unit housing
development on the land north of Murray Road (www.ottershawplace.co.uk). Following
Berkeley's public consultation on 16 June 2026, the Ottershaw Neighbourhood Forum
(ONF) and local resident groups have continued discussions with them.
Why are we engaging?
To be absolutely clear: the ONF and resident groups do NOT support development on
Green Belt or Grey Belt land. This remains a separate, fundamental issue, and our
engagement is in no way an endorsement of the proposals.
However, we are engaging with Berkeley to ensure that IF this development is approved
by the Council through the legitimate planning process, our community has done
everything possible to shape its design and protect Ottershaw.
We believe that being proactive now is our only real option to influence the outcome,
rather than simply reacting after the event.
What have we been discussing?
We have been pushing for high standards across many key areas. For example:
• Landscape-led design and the preservation of green spaces.
• Protection of Ottershaw’s unique character and heritage.
• Infrastructure, roads, traffic management, parking, and safe pedestrian routes.
• Biodiversity and the creation of dedicated wildlife corridors.
• High-quality architecture and durable, sympathetic building materials.
• Public spaces and safer neighbourhoods achieved through smart design.
How can YOU have your say?
If you wish to comment on Berkeley's proposals, you must do so before they submit
their formal planning application (which we expect to happen in September 2026).
• Submit your views ASAP directly online at: www.ottershawplace.co.uk.
• Please share these details with your neighbours.
We will issue further, detailed guidance on how to submit formal objections to the Council once the official planning application is lodged.
The ONF and local community groups are actively engaging with Berkeley to protect our village and influence the design SHOULD this development be approved.
To protect Ottershaw, you have TWO critical opportunities to make your voice heard:
1. IMMEDIATELY - The Developer Consultation
Have your say directly to Berkeley before they submit their final plans. Submit your views at: www.ottershawplace.co.uk
2. NEXT - The Formal Objection
Once the official planning application is lodged with the Council, we will issue detailed, step-by step guidance on how to submit formal objections.
Sincerely,
Working together for you:
• Ottershaw Neighbourhood Forum
• Ottershaw Society
• Murray Road Residents Association
• Brox Lane Residents Association
